Receptors
Membranes have surface receptors that recognize signaling
molecules such as peptide hormones. Binding of the signal activates
other proteins to cause specific responses inside the cell, a
process called signal transduction.
One of the common types of signal transduction is mediated by a
class of proteins called G-proteins.
