I received my Ph.D. degree in Systems and Computer Engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada in 2002. In September 2004 I joined the College of Information Technology (CIT), United Arab Emirates University as an Assistant Professor where I am currently the Academic Assessment Coordinator and an associate professor with the Computer Systems Design track. I am also an adjunct research professor at the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Before joining the UAE University, I had ten years of S/W R&D experience in Canadian leading telecommunication and semiconductor companies including Nortel Networks, Alcatel, PMC-Sierra, and Siemens.

I am the PI/co-PI of 11 research grants totaling over AED 2.6M. I received the Cisco UAE research award in Nov. 2007, and the UAEU best research project in May 2008. I am the author of more than 50 technical peer reviewed papers in the last 7 years. My research interests include reliability enabled EDA tools, reliability of nano-architectures, ultra-low power VLSI designs, Brain inspired nano-architectures, Novel ultra-low power and highly reliable communication technologies VLSI testing, applied optimization techniques, and feasibility of nonlinear programming models.

During the last 8 years I taught 12 different fundamental and specialization undergraduate courses. My teaching experience includes soft skill, introductory, and computer engineering specialized courses. I am also very interested in curriculum development and assessment strategies for undergraduate programs. I am a scholar of the ABET Institute for the Development of Excellence in Assessment Leadership (IDEAL). As the CIT academic assessment coordinator and the chairman of the assessment committee, I am responsible for the development and the execution of the CIT’s program assessment processes. I have also served as a member of the University Program and Curriculum Committee (PCC). The PCC is responsible for reviewing proposals received from various colleges pertaining to curriculum amendments or offering/elimination of degrees and taking the appropriate decisions thereto.

I have extensive experience in program accreditation processes. For three consecutive years I have served as a member and the secretary of the CIT accreditation task force. The task force has developed and executed several policies and procedures as well as a comprehensive plan to ensure that the bachelor of science program offered by the CIT is ready for ABET accreditation by the end of the 2009/2010 academic year.
