 c- Research Activities

Ongoing and planning research activities include the following:

q          Investigating the distribution of the smaller and larger foraminifera in Ras El Kheimah area, Northern Emirates.

q          Investigating the distribution of the smaller and larger foraminifera in the Oligocene deposits, East and northeast of the United Arab Emirates.

q          Paleoenvironmental interpretation of the stratigraphic distribution with emphasis on the Paleogene deposits, East and northeast of the United Arab Emirates.

q          Mapping and biostratigraphic correlation of the exposed Upper Cretaceous–Lower Tertiary deposits, East and northeast of the United Arab Emirates.

q          Compiling of a catalogue for the identified microfossils in the United Arab Emirates.

Current Emirates Research Activities

I am involved in continuing stratigraphical work on the western side of the Northern Oman Mountains (Jabals: Hafit, Malaqet, Mundassa, Huwwayah, Qatar, El-Rawdah, Al Faiyah, Qarn El Barr and Ras El Kheimah) These studies are partly in cooperation with Dr. AbduRahman Fowler, Dr. Ashraf  Baghdady, Dr. Waheed Hashem and Dr. Mahmoud Abu Saima.

Specifically, I am involved in the following research:

       q     E. A. Abd El-Gawad, F. Sadooni, O. Abdelghany, M. Al-Azab, A. Baghdady, M. Lotfy, M. Abu Saima, W. Hashem and Z. El Wazir:

q     Geological, Chemical and Simulation studies on the exposed source and reservoir rocks of Devonian-Permian and Jurassic-Cretaceous periods in United Arab Emirates.- Accepted by the UAE Univ. Research Affairs for funding as Interdisciplinary Research Grant Application between, Geology Department, Chemistry Department, UAE Univ. and Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) P.O.Box 270, Abu Dhabi, UAE, (2005).

q     Osman Abdelghany, Ashraf Baghdady and Mahmoud M. Abu Saima (2005): Facies and Depositional History of Outcropping Eocene Carbonate Strata of the United Arab Emirates. Accepted by the UAE Univ. Research Affairs for funding as Individual  Research Grant.

q          Abdel-Rahman Fowler, Abdelghany Osman and Waheed Hashem: Geological Investigation of the pre-Tertiary Basement, East of Al-Ain, and its significance for basement-cover structural relations.- Accepted by the UAE Univ. Research Affairs for funding (2004-2005). The Principal Researcher for this project is Dr. AbduRahman Fowler, with co-researcher Dr. Waheed Hashem. This research includes the identification of planktonic and benthonic foraminifera and their biostratigraphic and paleoecologic significance. This research is financed by  the Research Council of the University 2004-2005; 2005-2006.

q          Co-operative involvement (subject to agreement between the Faculty, University, Ministry of Energy and the British Geological Survey), in the BGS 4-year program of comprehensive remapping of the entire Emirates mountain areas.

q          My role is to facilitate and check the redrawn stratigraphic boundaries between the different rock uints of the sedimentary succession  south and east of Al-Ain city, through to Al Dhaid.
