Dr. El-Sayed is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology, United Arab Emirates University. He received his Ph.D. in Systems and Computer Engineering from Carleton University, Canada in 1999, and received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. Degrees in Computer Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt in 1989 and 1985 respectively. His broad research interests span the areas of Mobile and Wireless Networks, Network Security and Vechicular Ad-hoc Networks. Before joining the United Arab Emirates University, Dr. El-Sayed held several industrial positions at Wind River Systems (acquired by Intel Corporation), Nortel Networks, and Paragon Networks (acquired by Carrier Access Corporation then Turin Networks). During his tenure in the industry, he led several projects focused on performance optimization of network protocols and architectures. He also led the development of several networking and middleware technologies that span from core networking, security, wireless, and mobility for a variety of devices such as wireless infrastructure, network infrastructure, consumer devices, and industrial automation and control. His contributions, during his tenure in the industry, had tangible impact on the performance of real commercial products, which led to winning several prestigious awards, including Nortel Networks President’s award of Excellence in Leadership and Paragon networks CEO award of Excellence. Since he joined UAE University in September 2003, he has led several consultancy, research and technology transfer projects funded by Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company, Emirates Foundation and UAE University. His research has spawned more than 30 refereed publications in international journals and conferences. As a faculty member in the Faculty of Information Technology, he has contributed to the curriculum and the assessment of several IT programs, and developed and taught different subjects in various areas of Information Technology. He has also played an effective role at student’s advising and counseling activities, supporting student organizations, participation in accreditation reviews and the organization of the annual IEEE conference on Innovations in Information Technology. Dr. El-Sayed is a member of the IEEE/ComSoc since 2003 and has served as a guest editor for the International Journal of Internet Protocol Technology. In addition, he has served on the steering and technical program committees of several international conferences, and served as a reviewer for many top-ranked and high-impact journals. (RESUME) |
