Qasr Al-Hisn

Home of the former ruling family it is the oldest building in Abu Dhabi. A Centre of Documentation and Research is now being run from this building and displays many interesting exhibits of traditional artefacts and photographs.

    The historical building (Qasr Al-Hisn) is consisted of two wings joint in a right angle. The length of the southern wing is 92 meters while the eastern wing stretches to 77 meters. Each wing is consisted of two stories. Three smaller buildings are attached to the old palace, in addition to an elegantly designed mosque with majestic ornamentation and a glamorous dome. The total area of the palace building is 5,615 square meters. Gardens, open areas and parking areas total in area of 12,220 square meters. The "Qaser Al-Hisn" Building was first erected in 1793 when Abu Dhabi rulers moved from Leewa Oasis to Abu Dhabi island.
