Dear Physics Student;

            I welcome you to the General Physics Lab I (Phys 135: Classical Mechanics), and I hope you will be having a rewarding semester and a remarkable gain both in knowledge and in marks!!!

            In order to help you achieve your goals, I am going to give you here some very important guidelines which should make your study in this course easy, enjoyable and rewarding.

            This semester I developed a special home page for this course where you can find all the information that you may need for your study. I expect you to visit this site at least one time per week before you come to the lab in order to study the relevant materials related to the experiment you are going to perform. These study materials include:

1-     Online Java Applets Simulations,

2-     Power-Point Presentations,

3-     Background reading and references,

4-     Information about how to report on physics experiments,

5-     How to deal with experimental errors

6-     How to deal with and covert between units.

You will also find a concise physics dictionary and information about common mistakes in physics terms.

Please note that I am still developing this site, and maybe you will find some broken links or not completed pages, but the site now is pretty usable and I expect feedback and help from all students in order to further develop this site.

As for now, the office hours are not fixed yet because I am still expecting some changes in my schedule. I hope to be able to give you the exact times next week. I will also post this information on the site.

Lab Reports:

            I expect you to write a report for each experiment you do. You will find detailed information about how to write a report in the course web site as well.

Error Estimation:

            The most important thing about doing an experiment and interpreting its results is to correctly estimate the errors. More details in the course site.
